Besides the obvious, one being a butter or balm-like consistency and a lotion being a lighter cream, one of the other biggest differences we recognized is the absorption rate. Body butter is an extremely slow absorbing product, if any absorption even occurs that isn't top layer. Whereas a body lotion absorbs extremely quickly and penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin leaving a long-lasting hydrating feel while also being virtually invisible after a minute of rubbing into the skin. During our research and development process we decided to speak to many people in the tattoo community and doing some trials ourselves with tattoo products, we can confidently say that one of the worst feelings is having a greasy, oily residue on your skin that leaves your clothes sticking to your body and making you feel overall a little bit nasty.
